Water Audit As Per CGWBA
Water audit and its relevance according to the guidelines set by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA).
Water Audit Overview:
A water audit is a systematic assessment of water usage, conservation opportunities, and efficiency within an industrial or commercial facility.
The goal is to identify areas where water can be saved, reduce wastage, and improve overall water management.
CGWA Guidelines:
According to recent government guidelines (CWGA Notification dated 24/09/2020), all industries abstracting groundwater in excess of 100 m³/day are required to undertake an annual water audit.
The audit must be conducted by certified auditors and the audit reports should be submitted to CGWA within three months of completion12.
Contents of a Water Audit Report:
Executive Summary: Brief details about the manufacturing process, quantum of water used, and treated in the plant. Focus on improving water usage efficiency and identifying conservation opportunities.
Scope of Work: Includes water system analysis, quantification of baseline water mapping, monitoring using pressure and flow meters, inefficiencies and leaks assessment, water quality loads, and strategies for treatment and reuse.
Assessment of Present Water Usage: Includes plant water consumption trend, sources of water, distribution details, metering system, and water costing.
Water & Wastewater Treatment & Recycling Practices: Detailed analysis of effluent generation, treatment systems, disposal, and existing recycling/reuse practices.
Data Analysis & Results: Freshwater balance, wastewater mapping, and discussion on water balance for important water consumptive units.
Water Conservation Opportunities: Present scenarios, potential savings, recommendations, and benefits.
Implementation Plan: Summary of the study outcome and water-saving implementation plan
